Meeting at 7:15am at Kerman High School the Pee Wees, Juniors, and Seniors formed their familiar traveling caravan... beginning the season by traveling to Los Banos. Arriving at 8:30 all players were weighed in for their official 2011 certification. Pee Wees faced both S.J. Memorial and Los Banos, as did the Juniors.
A gentle breeze cooled the summer temperatures we are used to in Kerman, a pleasant respite from the heat. Excitement was everywhere, and in everyone. There is nothing quite like the first scrimmage of a football season.
During the scrimmages scores are not kept... the teams work on the basics - more or less a 'quiz', if you will, to see what has been learned during the previous 3 weeks of practice - what still needs work - and which players will rise to the occasion and establish themselves as their 'team leaders'. Coaches now begin drawing up their first game plan... the regular season, the games that count - a mere week away.
In these photos I hope you can see the hopes and dreams in the eyes and body language of the players. Character was tested, mental toughness challenged. Without question... as these photos will attest... KYF came though with flying colors. Let the games begin!
